Ruby Jo Lomax, owner and founder of RJL Education, has made a highly successful career out of owning and running her own salon. As well as this, she travelled the North West and has extensive teaching experience, educating qualified hairdressers in both practical and theory sessions – covering anything from back to basics to new techniques, foil placement, colour correction, retail knowledge, and more advanced workshops. She has won a range of awards for her work and has recently been nominated for a Women in Hair 22-23 award as well as Outstanding Female Entrepreneur 22-23
By the age of 22, Ruby had opened her own salon in Bolton (which is still running successfully today). Two years later she was headhunted to work for a large salon supplier and here she completed a Masters Degree in Colour.
It was during this part of her career that Ruby realised that many qualified hairdressers and beauticians were not salon ready after qualifying from college. This gave her the motivation to open RJL Education. Ruby’s dream is to motivate learners to be successful business entrepreneurs as well as talented hairdressers and beauticians.
Since graduating from Bolton University with a Distinction, Ruby has attended numerous courses throughout the UK, taught with world-leading brands, qualified in multiple techniques, and continuously expanded her knowledge on both the practical and business side of the salon.
Hannah came into hairdressing as an apprentice and an obsession for all things hair.
During her time training She really felt like there was something missing when it came to learning about bridal/occasion hair and didn’t feel very confident in the service so made it her mission to personally teach herself as much as possible by attending courses, watching tutorials and constantly keeping inspired.
With over 10 years industry experience she now runs her own salon and has gained her teaching and assessing certificates alongside working to be able to teach others how to become bridal/ occasion hair specialists.
Natalie is an experienced Nurse Practitioner with more than 24 years of medical experience, 12 of which have been spent in medical aesthetics. She began her nursing career in 1997, where she went on to graduate from the University of Manchester with a First Class Honours degree in Nursing in 2001.
In 2014, Natalie achieved her non-medical prescribing licence at Edge Hill University, marking the beginning of her move into aesthetics.
Natalie has always believed that a major and important part of her role is to improve patients’ self-esteem and wellbeing. It is this philosophy that has led her to become an expert in aesthetics, specialising in anti-ageing and beautification and using the latest non-surgical cosmetic techniques.
In 2017 Natalie opened Adonia Aesthetics, having worked full-time for five years. Since its opening, Adonia has delivered over 16,000 treatments, seen its treatment menu expand threefold, and more recently achieved CQC registration status.
In 2018, Natalie decided to channel her passion for aesthetics into teaching – aiming to develop a group of exceptional Aesthetic Practitioners who are recognised by both clients and the aesthetic industry as having the highest standards in training and the best clinical practice available. This includes providing learners with excellent evidence-based techniques, safe practice, and comprehensive backup support.
Natalie is also a non-medical prescriber and a full member of the Nursing Midwifery Council, The British Association of Nurses and the Aesthetic Complications Expert Group
Natalie owns her own semi-permanent makeup business where she works full-time when she isn’t educating at our education centre. She specialises in techniques such as powder brows but her main passion is lip blush. She loves to teach trained artists and new students fresh skills, supporting them through their career paths.
Her signature lip blush style is where her popularity comes from, as she makes women feel beautiful by enhancing their natural features.
Chelsea started her journey in 2015 when she completed her first makeup qualification. But her real industry love stems from her passion for lashes. Chelsea completed her classic lash training in 2018, a course that encouraged her to later complete her Russian Lashes qualification whilst working evenings and weekends at a professional lash bar. This allowed her to gain valuable experience whilst also building up a loyal and happy list of clients through word of mouth and social media recommendations.
Chelsea is passionate about teaching lash application in the best way possible, always taking pride in her work and aiming to give the client the best possible experience. She is a strong believer that learning theory, styling, and products are just as important as learning techniques. Chelsea prides herself in always providing high standards and high quality in her approach to education.
Sophie met Ruby in 2017 whilst studying for a PGCE at Bolton University; she then completed her assessor’s Levels 3 and 4 in 2019. Since then, she has been teaching a range of learners/ages in a number of subject areas and range of qualification types, all within the vocational setting.
As our IQA assessor, Sophie will be responsible for overviewing our assessments.
Amy has over 10 years of experience working in the retail industry of hairdressing & beauty, most recently with Alan Howard, the UK’s leading trade supplier of professional hairdressing and beauty supplies
After deciding that she wanted a new direction and more responsibility, Amy started working as a personal assistant to Ruby and as a receptionist for our partner company, Escape Hairdressing & Beauty. Covering everything from business admin to health and safety, equality and diversity, appeals & complaints, arranging personalised branding for our education centre & learners’ take-home kits, responding to all enquiries, taking/recording deposits & payments, stock control, assigning contracts, invoicing and running Ruby’s day-to-day diary, Amy’s role within both businesses is critical.
She’s a very busy lady!
Hazel began educating 22 years ago, and in 2004 she won an NHF award for Hair Up Using Added Hair, which is where her passion for hair extensions began.
She always knew that she wanted to pursue a career in the hair industry, but it wasn’t until Hazel opened her own hair salon that she decided where to specialise. Before this point, she had tried absolutely everything hair related, but extension education was a clear frontrunner. Since this point, Hazel has completed her Certificate of Education, as well as her Assessors Award.
Hazel has delivered hair extensions during her time as a salon owner, before passing the baton over to a colleague in 2021 to start her family. Having enjoyed a year with her little girl, she is really excited to be getting back into education with RJL, teaching some of the amazing new things that have been happening within the rapidly expanding extensions industry.
